Disappointment!!!!!

Friends,

I am very disappointed and very sad about the coldest reaction possible to the Bal Pocket Books. Why?

[1] The second upload hardly hit 20 downloads in about 2 weeks.
[2] A simple 'choose and click' poll has just 15 votes.
[3] Not a single comment for the classic Manoj Bal Pocket Books covers in almost 2 weeks.

Does this means, people are not at all interested in BPB. That's why suspended the idea of scanning and uploading the winner of the poll -

'Sita Badi Ka pret'

Yours -

(But I will keep hunting for more and more BPBs for my collection. I love this miniature form of novel.)

Few Covers

Have a look at the ten great covers of Indian Bal Pocket Books -

Bal Pocket Books

Bal Pocket Books were a successful genre India has witnessed in its glorious comic books time. Like a comic book, a Bal Pocket Book is also targeted to the young readers (more to teenage readers) of India or more especifically the Hindi speaking Indian youngsters.

I can not go beyond, as when this genre has started, what I knew that they were almost as old as the start of Diamond comics in 1978. And were extremely popular till 1990 or around.

Bal Pocket Books were a sort of Miniature Novels, suited to be read by the youngsters who loved to read novel genre but found them very big in term of pages. This mini-novels enjoyed praise and fame instantly especially the Raajan-Iqbal series by great S.C. Bedi.

S.C. Bedi can be said the father of Indian Ball Pocket Books with his Raajan-Iqbal series ruling the genre for years until it met its sudden death like the comic culture in India. The popularity of the genre forced many Pocket Books publishers like Diamond, Manoj, Raj (Harish/Raj) and others to target the yound readers with their huge monthly sets of Bal Pockets.
Most of the Bal Pocket Books were printed with the comic reading public in mind, that's why we can find almost all the characters appearing in the Bal Pocket featured in the comics too. (Some may have taken from the already famous characters of the comics like the Diamond characters whereas some later transformed into comic genre like Rajan-Iqbal or Sanjay-Salim.

One especial thing about the publication was that only one writer wrote all the books for a publication when almost each set has atleast 6 books in it. Like S.C. Bedi worked for years with Harish (Later Raj), Raajiv for Diamond, Manoj for Manoj or Amit Khan for Star Books. This abundance of work resulted in the repeatitive themes and presentation, but even then the Bal Pocket Books were a great friend of the comic loving Hindi speaking kids and teens...

So let us start our journey into the magical world of Bal Pocket Books, a world ran parallel to the comic supremacy. Hope to have you all aboard inthis joy ride to the past...
